Final 72 hours: Clinton, Trump, Pence, Obama return to Michigan

MICHIGAN — The final 72 hours before the election is shaping up to be a busy one with both Republican and Democratic campaigns planning to criss-cross Michigan to firm up support and drum up enthusiasm.

Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will return to the state. President Obama, Trump’s running mate Mike Pence, former President Bill Clinton and Ivanka Trump are also scheduled to return to stump for their respective candidates.

These latest visits follow appearances by Clinton on Friday in Detroit and Pence on Saturday in Holland. Trump stumped for votes in a last minute rally on Monday in Grand Rapids. Three of Trump’s children criss-crossed the state last week too, while Sen. Bernie Sanders stumped for Clinton in Kalamazoo.

Real Clear Politics now considers Michigan a “toss up” state based on statewide polling averages showing a tightening race between Clinton and Trump, meaning the state’s 16 electoral votes are also up for grabs. In all, 158 electoral votes are up for grabs in “toss up” states, as classified by Real Clear Politics. Clinton currently holds 216  votes to Trump’s 164 votes.
