OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Kent County Sheriff's deputy was injured after their vehicle was hit Sunday morning.

Michigan State Police say it happened at Podunk Avenue and 14 Mile Road around 3:56 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies say a vehicle was going southbound at a high rate of speed on Podunk Avenue when it ran through a stop sign and struck the deputy's patrol car.   According to a release, the deputy was investigating a hit and run crash when his vehicle was struck.

Crews on scene told FOX 17 that both the deputy and the other driver sustained non-life threatening injuries.  The deputy has since been released from the hospital.

Police say the driver of the car, a 20-year-old Belding man, was allegedly drinking before the crash.

The crash is still under investigation by Michigan State Police.
