MENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Sturgis man is in custody on a variety of drug, alcohol and driving charges from an incident Tuesday night.

Michigan State Police from White Pigeon say they were called to a corn field off of Silver Street near M-60 to check out a suspicious vehicle parked in the field.  There, they found an unconscious man behind the wheel.  When they woke the 36-year-old man, he tried to drive off.  The man stopped the vehicle after a moment and passed out.

As police took the man from the car, he tried to dump the contents of a vodka bottle on the ground.  Police say they also found a large quantity of crystal meth, marijuana, and several pills identified as Alprazolam, which can be used as a date rape drug.  They also found a shotgun in his vehicle.

The man has been charged with possession with intent to deliver meth and marijuana, possession of other drugs, felon in possession of a firearm, OUID, and driving on a suspended license.  The man’s name was not released.
