IRVING, Texas (AP) — Major League Baseball says negotiators for baseball players and owners have a verbal tentative agreement on a five-year labor contract. The deal extends the sport’s labor peace to 26 years and was reached about 3 1/2 hours before the expiration of the current agreement.

A big reversal has to do with baseball’s All-Star game. The league that wins the summer classic would no longer get home-field advantage in the World Series. That would go instead to the pennant winner with the better regular-season record. The change was included in the tentative new collective bargaining agreement and disclosed early today to The Associated Press by a person familiar with the agreement.

In addition, players and management agreed the minimum stay on the disabled list will be reduced from 15 days to 10.
