MENOMINEE, Mich. (AP) — A nativity scene that was taken down at a park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula following years of complaints is getting a new home at a church.

WLUK-TVreports Abundant Life Church & Mission says it will put up the nativity scene that was taken down this year at Great Lakes Memorial Marina Park in Menominee. The city attorney determined that the display wasn’t permitted on public property.

The Madison, Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation says the group first reached out to the city in 2007 after a complaint from a Menominee resident and sent several complaints to the city since that time. Menominee officials took a look at the issue this year.

The nativity scene had been displayed in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as part of a longtime Christmas tradition.
