WEST MICHIGAN — Arctic air will blast into the state the next several days with significant snow for some areas.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Mason, Lake, Oceana, Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties from late Wednesday night through Friday afternoon. Localized heavier snow bands will become likely with 1 to 2 inch per hour rates possible along with west-northwest winds at 15-25 mph with higher gusts.
The heaviest snow will be mainly west and southwest of Grand Rapids. Some localized areas could see a foot or more of snow from Wednesday night through Friday. Visibilities could drop to near zero at times under the heavier snow bands in blowing and drifting snow.
Commute times will increase and some school closing are possible by Friday morning.
