NORTON SHORES, Mich. — The Norton Shores Police Department is investigating a September house fire as being intentionally set.

Norton Shores Police announced Friday morning that they are investigating an arson in the 1800 block of Channel Road, located inside the Maranatha Complex. Officers and firefighters were called to the area at 10:29 p.m. Sept. 10 for a house fire. It was quickly determined that the fire was intentionally set in two places inside the residence.

Detectives along with fire investigators from the Norton Shores Fire Department have been actively investigating the arson with insurance investigators. They have determined that the owners of the residence were not involved in setting the fire and were not at home at the time of the fire.

The fire was quickly noticed by nearby residents who saw flames, heard smoke detectors going off and then called 9-1-1. Their quick action prevented any major structural damage to the residence. Howeverm the home sustained severe smoke damage throughout.

The home is still being repaired and damage thus far has exceeded $200,000.

Detectives are requesting public assistance with any information related to this crime.

The Maranatha Association has raised reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the arson. The Maranatha Association has partnered with Silent Observer in offering this reward of up to $5,000.

Anyone with any information to assist in the investigation is being asked to contact the Norton Shores Police Department at (231) 733-2691, Silent Observer at (231) 72-CRIME or online at WWW.SILENTOBSERVERMUSKEGON.COM.
