ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — A 6-mile stretch of U.S. 131 southbound was closed for nearly an hour Saturday afternoon due to inclement weather.

At 12:43 p.m. Saturday, Allegan County Central Dispatch announced that due to multiple crashes on southbound U.S. 131 between Mile Marker 51 and Mile Marker 54,  that southbound 131 was being closed down from Mile Marker 49 (the Otsego/Plainwell exit) to Mile Marker 55 (the Martin exit).

At 1:34 p.m. Saturday, Allegan Dispatch said the roadway had been reopened to traffic.

Allegan County wasn’t alone. Continuous snowfall Friday and Saturday made road conditions treacherous throughout all of West Michigan.

More snow was expected the remainder of Saturday and on into Sunday.
