GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –- A local art teacher is taking his love of music and social justice to YouTube with the help of his students.

Darius Baldwin is an art teacher at Northview High and came up with the idea as a way to highlight a social justice project his students were working on.

“Combining the social justice with the music and the good vibes and an up-beat message really reminds people it's all about love, it’s about coming back together and loving one another,” says Baldwin.

Baldwin performed the vocals with the help from the freshman girl’s choir.

David Tay, a junior who shot and edited the video, says he tried to use the project as an opportunity to create an uplifting message, "trying to reflect his positivity and his feelings toward nationalism and being Americans. I wanted to fuse that and showcase Northview and the talent that we have here.”

“This is something I’m really proud of,” says Tay. “I put a lot of effort into it, and I’m ready to share it with the rest of the world."

Baldwin is saying goodbye to Northview soon; he’s moving to Washington D.C. this Thursday to teach art. He says he’s thankful he will always have the video to remind him of his time at the Northview.
