GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Seven people were hospitalized following a head-on car crash which shut down Coit Avenue on Grand Rapids' northeast side Sunday evening.

It happened around 7:10 p.m. near the intersection of Coit and Elmdale Street on Sunday evening.

Multiple fire trucks, police cruisers and ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

A beige Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north on Coit and speeding, according to police. Police say the driver of the Chevrolet tried to pass a car before crashing head-on into another vehicle.

Officials say seven people were hospitalized for various injuries, such as broken bones. None of the injuries was reported as life-threatening.

Police are still investigating to see if any criminal action will be taken against the at-fault driver.
