CALEDONIA, Mich. —  Hundreds of people gathered at the Farmers Insurance Campus in Caledonia Saturday morning to help raise money for The March of Dimes. The organization helps families affected by premature births.

FOX 17 was a sponsor of the March for Babies event, with Janice Allen delivering remarks on stage.

In addition to the 5k event, there was also a "superhero sprint." The event also added a new memorial garden this year, for families and other community members to honor those lost.

"March of Dimes is a really unique charity in that we are actually impacting premature birth and infant mortality every day. In the last six years we've reduced premature birth rates significantly and so that is why it's important for people to continue to keep raising money," said Ginger Feldman, Executive Director of the March of Dimes in West Michigan.

Saturday's walk raised more than $200,000 for the organization, which will go toward prenatal wellness programs, research grants and support programs for families.

Another walk is scheduled for Celery Flats in Kalamazoo on Sunday.
