COOPERSVILLE, Mich. – Westbound I-96 was closed due to a crash near Coopersville Tuesday morning. Two people were injured in the crash, said the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

The highway was closed at 68th Avenue after a rollover around 8:36 a.m. All lanes were reopened around 9:24 a.m.

The crash occurred when Jordan Carmona, 25, of Muskegon, driving westbound, failed to see a backup caused by a lane closure at 68th Avenue. Carmona’s car rear-ended an SUV driven by Katherine Wilbur, 30, of Grand Rapids. The SUV rolled over on impact.

Wilbur suffered serious injuries  and was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Carmona sustained minor injuries and was taken to Hackley Hospital in Muskegon.

Carmona was cited for failing to stop “within assured clear distance.”
