CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The cause of a fatal house fire Friday in Cannon Township remains a under investigation.

The fire was reported at about 4:39 p.m. in the 6400 block of Fricke Court.

Authorities say a 64-year-old woman died in the fire. The woman’s 65-year-old husband was treated for smoke inhalation.

When officials arrived at the scene the man was outside and told them his wife was still inside the home, according to a release.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department dispatch says there was no hydrant nearby and tankers were called in from several area fire departments.

Officials at the scene tell FOX 17 the woman may have been unable to get out of the house because of medical issues.

Fire departments from Cannon Township, Courtland, Rockford and Ada responded to the scene as well as the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.
