EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Detectives are investigating after they say a woman either jumped, was pushed from or fell out of a moving van Friday, leaving her hospitalized in "very critical condition."

The incident happened in the 900 block of East Michigan Avenue.

Emmett Township Police told FOX 17 on Saturday afternoon that the woman was still hospitalized in critical condition but is not expected to survive. They said "family members are telling us she is brain dead."

They said the investigation is ongoing as to whether the incident "was intentional or an accident," whether she jumped, was pushed from or fell out of the van.

They said "this couple does not have a very good history," that they know who was driving and that they have interviewed that man.

Witnesses told police that a white Chevrolet Venture van was westbound on East Michigan Avenue when the female fell out but the driver continued driving.

The vehicle was later located by Battle Creek Police.

The woman, identified as Jodi Thompson, 41, of Battle Creek, was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where she was last listed in very critical condition.
