BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Just after midnight police in Battle Creek responded to a report of shots fired in a large crowd near Oaklawn Avenue and Howland Street.

"At this point we do not know who shot him," said Det. Sgt. Troy Gilleylen with the Battle Creek Police Department. "He was shot in the stomach and [suffered] a graze wound across his forehead. Once officers responded to the scene there were at least 100 if not more area residents that were outside."

According to police, the victim is in critical condition in an area hospital. They are actively searching for the suspect but have so far received very little information. Anyone with information is asked to call (269) 966-3322.

"This is where it becomes very important that someone in the community has to step up and help us solve this," said Det. Sgt. Gilleylen. "We can’t do it alone. We’re 100 percent sure that with it being as busy as it was that someone seen something that took place last night."
