Crews search for source of gas smell in NE Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Crews from DTE Energy and the Grand Rapids Fire Department spent much of the day searching for the source of a smell of natural gas around the north side of Grand Rapids.

The first reports of the smell came in around 11:30 a.m.  DTE says they received about 20 calls reporting the smell over time.

The smell was first reported in the area of Ann Street and Turner NW.  From there, reports of the smell came in from City High Middle School on Plainfield NE,  Cedar Street near Fuller NE and on Ball Street.

As of 4:30 p.m., DTE says they still don’t know the source of the leak.

No one was injured and investigators did not find any dangerous levels of natural gas.
