ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Kent County Sheriff's Department says multiple agencies responded to a Saturday morning fire at the York Creek Apartments.

The first call came in at 7:15 a.m. Saturday reporting flames in a building at 4195 Chasseral Drive NW in Comstock Park.

Dispatchers tell us the fire started on a balcony and then quickly spread to a building with 24 units.

We're told everyone was able to evacuate safely.

Alpine Township Deputy Fire Chief Jeremy Kelly told FOX 17 that three residents were transported to the hospital due to the blaze -- one with a hip injury and two with smoke inhalation, but none of them life threatening.

He said regarding the 24-unit building where the fire occurred:

*2 units suffered extensive fire damage

*10 units suffered water damage

*12 units are fine

The Alpine Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Kent County Sheriff's Department, the Plainfield Township Fire Department and the Walker Fire Department.

The York Creek Apartments issued the following statement in the wake of the fire: "We are grateful to the first responders for their prompt attention to this morning’s fire. It’s our understanding that there are no injuries. At this time we are working with our residents to ensure safe temporary housing. We are unable to speculate on the cause of the fire."
