MARSHALL, Mich. - A teacher with Marshall Public Schools has been arrested and is under investigation for criminal sexual conduct after officials say he admitted to having sexual contact with a 16-year-old female student.

The teacher, who jail officials identify as 33-year-old Jason Bushong, was arrested Wednesday after being interviewed by police.  The Calhoun County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case.

"Last night at about 9 [p.m.] the Marshall Police department was contacted by the mother of the 16-year-old," Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton said. "The victim and the suspect were both interviewed last night. They both admitted to sexual contact."

Police say the victim's mother found her daughter in a car with the teacher near his home in Bedford Township. Officials executed a search warrant at the home and seized electronics and other items related to the investigation.

The superintendent of Marshall Public Schools sent a letter to parents Wednesday that says the district strongly condemns the teacher's actions and that school officials "are acting decisively to address the teacher's employment status with the Marshall Public Schools."

Anyone with further information on the case is asked to call Marshall Police at 269-781-2596 or Calhoun County Sheriff at 269-781-0880.
