GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Hundreds gave their shot at landing a role in ‘Finding Home’, a new film that will be shot in various parts of West Michigan and beyond.

Bright Idea Pictures held casting calls from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn, 310 Pearl Street NW, Grand Rapids.

“We’ve got a lot of great talent in west Michigan and having them come out and try for the film is a really good opportunity to see what they got.” Producer-Director Ryan Webber said.

Webber has been working feverishly on the film since 2006. A lot of buzz has been surrounding the feature film locally. The casting call was truly an impressive display for the grass-roots effort that started in the directors basement in 2006.

“True inspiration of this movie was sort of just like the fact that society moves so incredibly fast now, everybody has to have cars, computers a sped up society, so the story is sort of unique perspective on how to slow down.  That’s what it is on the surface, but it’s really about something far more telling.”

When I asked Webber what that was he told me, “If I told you, I’d spoil the film.  The surface of the movie looks like it’s a story about a homeless man. But it’s really much more than that.  Audiences will leave shocked.   It’s designed to be re-watched.”

The main character is an older homeless man named Walter; Noah, a young, depressed guy in his 20s wants to slow down to Walter’s lifestyle.

All of the filming will take place over a five-day span in various parts of Michigan ranging from Kentwood to Mackinaw.

The film is ambitious, the crew hopes to debut the film in early 2013.
