Windows 8is the most radical overhaul of the Windows operating system yet. It’s built to work well on both touch screens and good old fashioned monitors.

The program is a fresh look for Windows with a touch friendly interface.

Microsoft is banking on the fact that you’re probably spending more time surfing the web, listening to music and using simple apps rather than crunching numbers in a complex spreadsheet. Although, you still have that option with the traditional destop hidden.

But on the tablet side of things, Microsoft’s new Surface has a cover that doubles as a keyboard making it useful for work. But, laptops like the Acer Aspire S7 blur the line with a touch screen and slick design.

One thing to note is that there are two major versions of the new operating system–Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT.

Think of Windows 8 RT as Windows “light.” The RT version might not be able to run all of your favorite desktop programs where as Windows 8 includes the full features.

Windows 8 is a great update in the Windows line and we’re likely to see new computer models coming out to take advantage of all the new features.
