GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (FOX 17)—
I-196 eastbound was closed early Monday morning by a semi rollover.
A portable crane was brought to the scene around 6 a.m. to make it possible to put the rig on its wheels.
The crash took place around 2 a.m. when the driver swerved to avoid a deer on the hill just after Lake Michigan Drive. The rig blocked both lanes of I-196, and traffic was being routed off at the Lake Michigan Drive exit to return to the expressway at Lane Avenue.
There was a delay in getting the rig onto its wheels because a portable crane had to be called in from the Cedar Springs area. The crash scene was cleared around 6:35 a.m., but the highway could not be opened right away until traffic control devices were removed.
