COVERT, Mich-
The Palisades Nuclear Plant is back online, the power plant has experienced other issues several times this year.
A steam leak in a drain valve led to another shutdown of the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Covert on Sunday, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
During the outage, workers removed the leaking component and the associated drain valve and replaced with new components. They also repaired a small water leak in a service water system that was discovered back in September.
The leak Sunday rendered a steam generator inoperable, a situation that required complete shutdown. The shutdown was completed at 4:21 p.m. Sunday.
The leak took place in an auxiliary building, was small, and didn’t affect other equipment, the NRC said.
“The NRC has no immediate safety concerns with this issue,” said a release. NRC inspectors went to the plant and observed the shutdown procedure.
The aging power plant has had several service issues reported already this year.
