BUCHANAN, Mich- Two people were arrested Thursday and one is still sought in the theft of metal from property owned by American Electric Power, a utility that serves parts of southern Michigan.

Cheri Burkhard, 35, of Mishawaka, Ind., and Raymond Kogut, 34, of Buchanan, were arrested after a Berrien County deputy saw what appeared to be a theft on the utility’s property on River Road in Buchanan. By the time Deputy Kelly Laesch got to the site, the thieves were gone, but after calling in some backup, Burkhard and Kogut were pulled over.

Inside their vehicle, deputies found metal that had been taken from the AEP site.

A warrant has been issued for a third party, a 33-year-old Indiana man, who police believe was also involved.
