HOLLAND, Mich –
Police identified Kyle Danial Ackerman of Brooklyn, Mich., as the man struck and killed Saturday night.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection Felch Street and US 31 in Holland Township.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said a Ackerman was wearing all black clothing and attempted to cross the intersection when he struck.
Police said Ackerman left a party at a nearby hotel to smoke a cigarette.
He was a student at Grand Valley State University.
The driver, Rex Slingerland, 60, of Grand Haven Township, was not hurt.
Police said the driver was traveling north on US 31 and had no time to stop for the pedestrian.
Slingerland drove through the intersection on a green light, police added.
