GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Federal officials are investigating a possible connection between 5 Hour Energy drinks and thirteen deaths.
New reports released Wednesday say the deaths all happened over the last four years. This is the second time the FDA has investigated energy drinks within the last month. A few weeks ago, Monster Energy drinks were possibly related to five deaths. In the last three years, over ninety filings have been made against 5 Hour Energy claiming they’ve caused heart attacks and convulsions.
The popular drinks are distributed by Living Essentials based in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The company released a statement saying the product is safe when used as directed. They do not say exactly how much caffeine is in a shot of 5 Hour Energy but Consumer Reports has said it’s about 215 milligrams which is almost double the amount in a regular cup of coffee.
