GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Federal officials are investigating a possible connection between 5 Hour Energy drinks and thirteen deaths.

New reports released Wednesday say the deaths all happened over the last four years. This is the second time the FDA has investigated energy drinks within the last month. A few weeks ago, Monster Energy drinks were possibly related to five deaths. In the last three years, over ninety filings have been made against 5 Hour Energy claiming they’ve caused heart attacks and convulsions.

The popular drinks are distributed by Living Essentials based in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The company released a statement saying the product is safe when used as directed. They do not say exactly how much caffeine is in a shot of 5 Hour Energy but Consumer Reports has said it’s about 215 milligrams which is almost double the amount in a regular cup of coffee.

Which raises the awkward question are you happy to continue consuming a product that has been linked to such serious health issues or are you going to just shake it all off and argue that until someone takes it off the market it must by implication mean it’s still good for you? Or even worse can we even wonder if there's a cover up….?

Tried these one time a few years ago, tasted God-awful and did nothing for me. But then again, none of the popular energy drinks have ever done anything for me either, I mainly just drink them for the purpose of having a carbonated beverage, but not more than 1 per day, if that. I think the main culprit behind these health conditions is not these products alone, but these products combined with Mal-nutrition. People think they can substitute food and water with these energy supplements and they just tear up the body instead, increase dehydration, etc.
