Miguel Cabrera already made history this season after winning baseball’s first Triple Crown in 45 years, now he can add MVP to his trophy case.
Cabrera won the American League MVP award Thursday night, receiving 22 of the 28 first place votes.

The Venezuela native is the first from his country to win the award and follows up back to back winners for Detroit in the MVP category. Teammate Justin Verlander won the award in 2011.

Cabrera had a record season for the Tigers in 2012. He finished the regular season with a .330 batting average, 44 homeruns and 139 RBIs.

In addition, Cabrera helped guide Detroit to the World Series and was given a Silver Slugger award.
