A student at Kalamazoo Central High School told his teacher he brought a loaded gun with him to school Friday.

The teen turned over a loaded .22 caliber handgun.

The male was taken into custody by the Kalamazoo Public Safety Department and lodged at the juvenile home.

The case is currently being reviewed by the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor.

The district sent home a letter to parents that read:

“The safety and security of our students are very important to us. Today a student told his teacher that he had a weapon. The teacher reported the incident and the student immediately escorted to the school office. The student had a small handgun in his possession which he handed over to the adults. Kalamazoo Township Police came to the building and the student was arrested. Further disciplinary action will be taken.”
