A Kalamazoo man was sentenced to 45 days in jail after dog fighting charges were sought on him by investigators.
49-year-old Leonard Turner III said he never fought his own dogs in court, but the prosecuting attorney said there was no difference if he was fighting his own dogs or others, it happened on his property.
The prosecutor asked for a lengthier jail sentence. Turner previously pled guilty to a felony animal fighting charge back in September.
Turner was arrested back on August 6, 2012. He had previously been under investigation by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department and animal services. Turner claimed to have lived in the house for 16 years.
Police said 14 American pit bull’s were found at the home, and evidence of previous dog fighting, including a fighting ring.
Turner will serve 45 days in jail, and received 3 years probation.
