Joel Schipper kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime for Grand Rapids Christian as the Eagles topped defending state champion Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 40-37 for the Division 3 State Championship.
Schipper tied the game at 37 in the final seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime.
The state championship is a first for Grand Rapids Christian and head coach Don Fellows.
Sophomore sensation receiver Drake Harris broke and MHSAA state title game receiving record. He finished with 243 yards on 8 catches with one touchdown. Harris is committed to Michigan State.
Seth McIntosh also scored three touchdowns for Grand Rapids Christian in the victory, and senior quarterback Alex VanDeVusse was 16-26 with 307 yards and one touchdown.
The Eagles finish the season 13-1, while OLSM finishes 11-3.
