PORTLAND, Mich –

A rollover crash on I-96 east of Portland sent hospital people to a Lansing hospital Sunday.

A 2009 Jeep driven by Karen McCarthy, 56, was westbound near Clintonia Road around the 82 mile marker when it struck a sign, then the cable guard rail. The Jeep rolled several times, and two people were ejected, said Michigan State Police.

One passenger told troopers the Jeep drifted toward the cable barrier, and he yelled at the driver. The reason for the drifting is still unknown, said MSP.

McCarthy and a 16-year-old male passenger were flown by Aeromed to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, while two others who were in the Jeep, a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were taken there by ambulance.

Their conditions at the hospital were not known.

The westbound lanes of I-96 were closed for about an hour after the crash, which occurred shortly before 6 p.m.
