Standoff In NW Grand Rapids Over

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
The standoff at 961 Chatham St. which lasted about 2 hours is over with the suspect in custody.

Police discovered that the 4-month-old which was presumed to be in the house with the suspect was at a neighbor’s house. After learning this information the SWAT team forced their way inside. The suspect surrendered peacefully and faces charges of felonious assault.

GRPD responded around 7:22 p.m. to a call from a woman after a man had assaulted her on the front lawn. The police arrived at the address and found that the suspect had assaulted one alleged victim by hand and then attempted to go after another alleged victim with a knife.

The suspect walked out of the house, but when he saw the police, who attempted to grab him, he retreated back inside.

Police say the suspect, a Hispanic male, was presumed to be inside the house with a 4-month-old baby. The suspect was wanted for allegedly committing a felonious assault and a felonious assault with a knife.

The woman who made the call to the police is now at Spectrum Hospital with bruises on her ribs and head. She is expected to be okay.

During the stand off police surrounded the house and blocked off several streets to establish a perimeter.

Authorities have ended the stand off peacefully.
