KALAMAZOO, Mich- An inmate who walked away from a jail work site Monday afternoon has been captured out of state.
Ross Emerson Culver, 29, walked away from the prison work detail. The incident happened outside the jail around 12:15 p.m Monday. Police believed he left on foot.
He was arrested around 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning in Cooper County, Missouri.
A plate reader along the highway noticed a plate that belonged to a stolen vehicle driven by Culver. Police attempted to pull the vehicle over, but he kept going.
Culver led police on a 25 minute chase through several jurisdictions going at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
Culver crashed the car and was arrested. He then gave a false name to authorities.
Culver is being held in the Cooper County Jail on multiple charges. He’ll eventually be returned to Kalamazoo County to face charges related to auto theft and walking away from an inmate work site.
He’s previously been charged for uttering & publishing, and 2nd degree home invasion.
