Friday, November 30, 2012 is the opening day of ice skating season at Rosa Parks Circle, but any chance of skating this weekend may be melting away– literally.
FOX 17 spoke to Brent Mundwiler of the Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department. He said that they are hopeful the ice skating rink will be open during Friday’s Christmas tree lighting at the GRAM, but it is unlikely for Saturday and Sunday. “It’s hard to keep the rink safe for skating when the temperature is near 60 degrees,” Mundwiler said. It is likely to remain closed into next week as well.
FOX 17 is predicting temperatures in the mid 50s Saturday and near 60 for Sunday and Monday. Colder temperatures finally arrive Tuesday Afternoon.
All of this may be good news for golf enthusiasts, however. Mundwiler said Indian Trails Golf Course on Kalamazoo Avenue SE will reopen Saturday.
