ZEELAND, Mich – Zeeland Public Schools (ZPS) has decided on who its next superintendent will be.

Calvin DeKuiper, who was previously superintendent at Ludington Public Schools, was unanimously selected 7-0 by the ZPS Board of Education.

DeKuiper officially signed a contract with the district and is likely to begin sometime in January, 2013.

Back in November 12, 2012 DeKuiper was named a top candidate for the position through a targeted search.

DeKuiper had a public interview which was posted on the district website which received around 520 views. A feedback survey was also on the site.

“The community feedback was overwhelmingly positive,” ZPS Board President Tom DenHerder explained. “I am confident Cal will be a fantastic leader for our district and his family a welcome addition to the Zeeland community.”

Thursday’s final interview followed a site visit to Ludington on Tuesday, made up of a panel of 16 ZPS Board of Education members, administrators, teachers and parents.

Site visit participants were given an opportunity to talk to Ludington staff, board of education members, and the greater Ludington community to further gauge DeKuiper’s commitment to educational leadership and community.

Prior to his eight years of experience as superintendent, DeKuiper served the Ludington district as the high school assistant principal for 12 years. His credentials also include experience in Greenville, where he served as athletic director and taught science for several years.
