DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford Motor Co. on Friday announced a voluntary safety recall of almost 90,000 2013 vehicles due to engine problems.
The automaker recalled 73,320 SE and SEL model Ford Escapes equipped with 1.6-liter engines and 15,833 SE and SEL model Ford Fusions equipped with 1.6-liter engines. The recall came after reports of vehicle fires starting in the engine compartment when the engine is running. No injuries have been reported.
Ford advised owners of the vehicles to contact their dealer immediately for free alternative transportation.
The company said U.S. owners of these vehicles should call 1-866-436-7332 for details.
Ford said Escapes with 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines are not affected by the recall, as are Fusions equipped with 2.5-liter and hybrid engines.
