BATTLE CREEK, Mich., — Law enforcement agencies in the Battle Creek area have teamed up to pay it forward and bring holiday cheer to local children.
The nation-wide program, Shop with a Cop, will come to the area after a local trooper heard about the program from a fellow officer.
The Department of Human Services will provide a list of children throughout the Greater Battle Creek Area who will be invited to participate in the event, which will happen on Dec. 15.
Among the law enforcement agencies participating include:
- Michigan State Police
- Battle Creek City Police
- Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department
- Emmet Township
- Springfield City Public Safety
The day will start when the children meet the police officer they will be partnered with. The pairs will take a bus to Walmart, which will have police escorts complete with flashing lights and blaring sirens.
In addition, each child will get a gift card and their police partner will help them shop. The day will end with a pizza party, gift wrapping and souvenir photos.
Neighborhoods, Inc. will serve as a sponsor of the program. Anyone who would like to donate can go to the Neighborhoods, Inc. website or send a donation to the Battle Creek Shop with a Cop Fund at 47 North Washington, Battle Creek, MI 49037.
