MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich – Last summer Muskegon Heights previous emergency manager laid off staff who worked at the district and hired Mosaica Education to run its operations for the next five years.

According to Mosaica Education’s regional vice president, after just three months one in four of the new teaching staff has quit. That’s 20 of the 80 hired.

Reports showed Muskegon Heights has some of the lowest performing schools in the state. The district is currently trying to manage a multimillion dollar deficit.

All of these problems left state appointment managers with no other options but to privatize services.

According to Mosaica Education some teachers left in the beginning of the school year, there was no discipline police in place yet. Others left for better jobs with more pay and benefits.

The high school principal quit before the first week of class, the position was eventually filled in October.
