GOBLES, Mich. — Thanks to local tree growers, hundreds of servicemen and women will be able to celebrate the holidays.

Wahmhoff Farms, located in Gobles, will donate leftover Christmas trees to our troops as part of the “Trees for Troops” program.

On Dec. 3, volunteers loaded 406 trees that will travel to Fort Knox in Kentucky.

Earlier this year, the White House recognized the effort as part of “Joining Forces Community Challenge,” which honors people and groups who help military families.

In 2011, troops received more than 1,900 trees as part of Trees for Troops.
