West Michigan Wakes To Light Snow

Although we’ve seen some very light dustings of snow the past few weeks, the first real measurable snowfall came Friday night into Saturday morning. Places like Greenville in Montcalm County recorded 2.3 inches. Cannonsburg picked up 2.5 inches, while Rothbury in Oceana County tabulated 1.5 inches. Many areas along and north of I-96 saw some minor accumulations, and the Kent County road commission reported road temperatures were at/below freezing in some spots early this morning.

This snowfall actually occurs later than most normal/average snows for West Michigan. We should have already had more than six inches of snow in November than never happened. Conversely, we should have already had a few more inches during the first few days of December, so we indeed are overdue. According to National Weather Service reports, a general one to three inches fell across our central/northern counties Saturday morning slickening up bridges and overpasses.

We’ll have the chance for some lake-effect snow showers late Sunday night into Monday as some colder air filters in behind another system across Lake Michigan. The attached photo was snapped in Comstock Park as the wet, sticky snow adhered to all the rooftops, trees, decks, and grass. Even some minor accumulations on roadways occurred.
