BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich — A-7-year-old girl is in critical condition following a crash that happened early Friday morning.

The Ottawa County Sheriffs Department says a driver ran a stop sign at the intersection of Port Sheldon Street and 72nd Avenue in Blendon Township northwest of Hudsonville.

The driver collided with another vehicle, making impact near the back tire. Kevin Groothuis and his two daughters were inside the vehicle that got hit. A deputy says the 7-year-old and her 9-year-old sister were in the backseat.

The 7-year-old was airlifted to the hospital and is listed in critical condition. The 9-year-old was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

A neighbor says the 9-year-old has been released and the 7-year-old is “resting peacefully.” The girls were on their way to school.

The Groothuis family is asking for prayers.

Deputies say neither of the drivers were injured. The driver at fault was ticketed for not stopping at the stop sign. The Ottawa County Sheriffs Department continues to investigate.

They say everyone was wearing their seatbelt and the 7 year old was in a booster seat.
