GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — A power outage in Grand Rapids had wide-raining effects Thursday.

Most people were affected by the traffic signals, which were out at various intersections. Signals on Michigan Street were did not operate from Fuller Avenue to Lafayette Avenue NE. But lights were also out at Burton Street at Eastern Avenue SE and at Franklin Street at Madison Avenue SE.

The David D. Hunting YMCA in downtown Grand Rapids was forced to close for lack of power.

About the time the signal at Franklin and Madison went dark, a Grand Rapids Police officer reported to dispatchers that he had seen a flash before he noticed the signal was inoperative.
