BARRY CO. – Prairieville Township police have confirmed the victim of Wednesday night’s deadly crash is Melissa Jo Ulferts, 42, of Plainwell.

She died from “blunt force trauma” following an accident on Cressey Road, just east of Kane Road. Police say her husband Elvin Kizziar, 36, was the driver. He was arrested and is currently in jail for driving on an expired license.

Bad weather is blamed for the driver losing control and hitting a tree. Chief William Thompson says pills were found in the car, and Kizziar admitted to consuming  some of them before driving. However, he says results of a standard blood test will not be back for another couple of weeks.

Kizziar faces felony charges for driving on an expired license and causing death.

FOX 17 learned that Kizziar has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1996. Records from the Secretary of State also show that his licensed has been suspended numerous times since 1997.
