Police Arrest Portage Man for Drug Possession and Reckless Driving

WAVERLY TOWNSHIP – An 18-year-old Portage man was arrested for reckless driving  and operating while under the influence of drugs Friday afternoon.

Police made the traffic stop along M43 and M4o around 2:00 p.m.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department said deputies observed the man speeding and almost hitting other vehicles.

The deputies stopped the driver of 1993 Jeep Cherokee and  smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from vehicle.

Police seized 10 grams of marijuana.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Van Buren County jail.

He’s being lodged on charges of operating under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana,  and operating a vehicle without insurance. 

The man’s identity is not being released until after his arraignment.
