KALAMAZOO, Mich. –  No one was hurt following an early morning fire in the Edison Neighborhood on Saturday.

Authorities were called to a house at the corner of Washington and Mills Street around 2:16 a.m.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said a neighbor alerted police after noticing smoke coming from an upstairs apartment.

The neighbors did not know if anyone was inside.

It took fire crews about 40 minutes to extinguish the blaze and they were on scene for about two hours to make sure it was out.

Police said the house appeared to be vacant.

The house suffered extensive damage on the second floor, police added.
