WAYLAND, Mich. – Inspired by their classmate’s battle against cancer, students at Wayland High School are holding a week long charity event, donating the money to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

During the school year a senior at WUHS was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer.

The school said the girl’s fight against cancer has inspired student council members to donate to the very hospital that helped their classmate. The students are also donating to the hospital in efforts to help other children who are fighting against cancer.

Student council members will be t-shirts, beads, bracelets and paper basketballs.

The t-shirts will be sold for $10.00. Those who wear their shirts to the home basketball game on Feb. 1 will receive free entry.

Each paper basketball can be purchased for $1.00. People can write the names of someone they know who has fought or is fighting against cancer. The balls will be hung in the gymnasium.

The purple bracelets will also be for sale for $1.00. They will read: Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Fight for a Cure.

The week long charity event will begin Jan. 28, 2013, continuing through Feb. 1, 2013.
