GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Commissioner Walt Gutowski has refurbished some of his buildings on Bridge Street in hopes of restoring and revitalizing the corridor.

The area is near downtown Grand Rapids along Bridge Street.

Gutowski has bought several properties, which include the Red Lion, Cini-Mini Adult Theater and Next Door Lingerie Store.

He has already refurbished Fratelli’s Pizza and Franks Knockout Boxing.

Rockford Construction will be helping Gutowski out on the project.

The company is moving its headquarters to a new facility just north of Bridge Street.

Rockford Construction has also purchased several lots in the area and plan to launch a new development called The Gateway Project.

Developers have not said what exactly will be built.

Gutowski told FOX 17 News that he hopes to bring people back to what he calls the “pure west-side.”

“This is the street that provided for my grandfather’s family and my father’s family so we are determined to do really what is best for the area,” Gutowski said.

The commissioner said he would like input from the community on what they’d like to see there.

He will be launching a Facebook page soon, to gather feedback.
