DETROIT — Three members of the Detroit Tigers were named to preliminary rosters for the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Reigning AL MVP and 2012 Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera will join Anibal Sanchez on Team Venezuela. Octavio Dotel will play a role in the Team Dominican Republic bullpen.

Tigers ace Justin Verlander isn’t on Team USA but could join the roster later if he feels confident enough in his throwing program.

First-round play for Team USA, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic runs March 7-10, with second-round play March 12-16 ahead of the finals March 17-19 at AT&T Park in San Francisco. The Tigers will hold their first spring training game on February 22. Detroit opens the regular season in Minnesota on April 1.
