BATTLE CREEK, Mich — A band of lake-effect snow has intensified along I-94 in parts of Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties. As of 10:00 A.M., visibility at the Battle Creek airport was reduced to one-quarter of a mile, while Marshall reported one-half mile visibility.
That band of snow followed I-94 westward into Kalamazoo County through Galesburg, then shifted northward through the city of Kalamazoo and areas to the north. Travel conditions along I-94 in these areas will be likely to deteriorate quickly.
While there were more breaks in the snow bands than earlier in the morning, other locations that remain under the bands of snow were still seeing some heavier squalls. Additionally, winds have strengthened throughout the morning and will blow the snow around quite a bit the rest of the day.
Temperatures continue to drop through the teens and into the single digits. Wind chill factors are being reported below zero already at most sites in West Michigan.
