Messy Tuesday Morning Ahead

Posted

WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — The cold and snowy weather that started on Monday will continue overnight, making driving a little challenging by Tuesday Morning.

This map shows the current wind chill temperatures as of 9PM Monday night. Wind chills will remain below zero through tomorrow morning. Actual air temperatures are in the single digits. This kind of weather isn’t especially effective for chemicals to melt the ice and snow on the road, so there will be a lot of slick spots on area roadways. The situation may be worse than Monday morning, when many schools and businesses were closed for the holiday.

Snowfall totals so far with this lake-effect snow have been as high as 7″ in Jenison, according to a post on the FOX 17 Facebook page. Parts of Allegan County have received 6 to 8 inches of snow. In Grand Rapids, most areas are around 3″ of new snow accumulation today.

Lake-effect snow will continue overnight tonight. The heaviest snow will remain in Ottawa and Allegan Counties, where another 2 to 4 inches is possible.

I suspect there will be some school delays or closings Tuesday. For the latest on that in the morning, join FOX 17 Morning News from 5-9, or visit the closings section of Fox 17 online, located at  http://closings.fox17online.com/display/index.php?station=1
